Use the command below to record a screencast and save it as an mpeg:

ffmpeg -f x11grab -s 800x600 -i :0.0 /tmp/screencast.mpg

AVParameters don't have video size and/or rate. Use -s and -r.
:0.0: I/O error occurred
Usually that means that input file is truncated and/or corrupted.

Haha !! this way it works in debian ubuntu etc ;)

You may also want specified bitrate, eg:

-b 1000k

Otherwise ffmpeg will use its default bitrate which is really low (200kb/s).
